Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify the blue economy concept as well as its challenges and requirements for achieving sustainable tourism development in New Alamein City, located on the North Coast. The study also aimed to emphasize the significance of the blue economy in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals by promoting the sustainable use of waterbodies in New Alamein City, which will tremendously benefit future generations. The methodology of the study was based on examining the city's tourism status and the extent to which the blue economy needs were being implemented using descriptive statistics measures and the SWOT analysis model for the internal and external surrounding environment. Questionnaires were distributed to a random sample of visitors to New Alamein City, both foreign and Egyptian, as well as residents. In addition to tourism companies, travel agencies, tourist resorts, and hotels. Some personal interviews were also conducted with some officials in governmental and private institutions and bodies concerned with tourism to learn about the requirements for implementing the blue economy in New Alamein City, the barriers to its implementation, and their proposals to overcome the challenges in New Alamein City to achieve sustainable tourism development. The study recommended the necessity of raising awareness of the 2030 sustainable development goals, as well as strengthening the role of civil society and its contribution to implementing blue sustainability and strengthening fruitful cooperation among state stakeholders to achieve integrated coastal zone management that integrates all activities in coastal areas.
