The role of knowledge management in the tourism field

Abstract

.The study and practice of knowledge management have grown rapidly since the 90s, driven by social, economic, and technological trends. Tourism has been slow in adopting this approach due to not only a lack of gearing between academic researchers and tourism sector, but also to a “hostile” Knowledge adoption environment. This research discusses the role of knowledge management for tourism & several issues related to it. .Among the main research objectives to review knowledge and knowledge management, to study the importance of knowledge management in the Sector of Tourism, and to study applying know ledge management in the Ministry of Tourism, and its role in activating the management of the tourism industry in Egypt. . To deal with this subject, the research is based on the theoretical approach to present the theoretical and bibliographical aspects by using the scientific references and the Arabic / English periodicals in addition to the reports, statistics and studies in the tourism field. The research is based also on a field study through a questionnaire designed for supervisors in the Ministry of tourism to know the role of knowledge management in tourism Sector. . The research is composed of three sections, the first section deals with knowledge management as a managerial approach. The second section deals with the importance of knowledge management to tourism. The third section includes the field study and its results. . The research ended with general results and recommendations, the Arabic and English references and appendices.
