The study aimed at highlighting the current situation of the river transportation sector of the River Tigris in Iraq, In addition to recognizing the elements of the tourist attractions in Mosul city. The study is also aiming at investigating the problems facing the river transportation sector.
A questionnaire was used to survey the study sample, which targeted inbound tourists to the forest region. While 350 questionnaires were distributed, only 295 forms were collected and analyzed. The study used also twelve in-depth interviews with tourism experts in Mosul city to get a full image of the problem. Finally, the SPSS statistical program was used to analyze the data collected. The results revealed richness of the attraction elements of the region. The study recommends that the Iraqi government needs to adopt a strategic plan to develop the river transportation to attract tourists, particularly in the studied region and encourage more investments in new tourism projects.
