Abstract

This study explores the role of tourism in achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 for sustainable development in the Riyadh region between 2015 and 2030, addressing a gap in available literature. It aims to highlight Riyadh’s tourism and economic potential and assess the influence of its geographical location on tourism growth. The research emphasizes the tourism sector’s importance in sustainable development and synthesizes findings from related studies, incorporating expert opinions to extract key benefits.
A conceptual framework is proposed for sustainable tourism development in Riyadh, built on three pillars: Foundations, Projects, and Impacts. The study includes financial analyses of tourism investments and their economic and touristic returns, using secondary data from the Ministry of Tourism and the Open Data Platform. It also reviews regulatory frameworks and investigates case studies such as Riyadh Season and Expo 2030, along with exploratory studies like the Tourism Security Project.
Key findings highlight the national tourism strategy, project types, and practical applications in Riyadh. The study recommends clarifying the concept of sustainable tourism development, applying the research model to other regions, and addressing climate change impacts to achieve holistic sustainability.
