The Role of Authentic Local Food in the Tourist Experience Applied on the Egyptian Tourist Destination

Abstract

Many destinations such as Italy, France and Spain have successfully developed food imagery  as part of their overall image to promote them  as tourist destinations.
    Other countries have marketed local cuisine as a major tourist attraction, local food is an essential element of the tourist experience for travelers, and when many tourists make the decision to visit a particular tourist destination out of their desire to experience the lifestyle of the local population, the local food experience becomes essential. And from the above, We extract the research problem, which is that despite the multiplicity and diversity of the Egyptian food cultural heritage, and the distinctiveness of Egypt with many authentic foods that reflect this cultural heritage, the impact of these authentic local foods is not clear, and therefore the research issue can be defined in this question: What is the extent of the importance of authentic local food on enriching the tourist experience.
   The study aims to examine the extent to which the authenticity of local food contributes to increasing tourists' satisfaction with the Egyptian tourist destination, as well as determining the role of authentic local food in enhancing the tourist experience .
   The study also relied on the quantitative method by distributing questionnaires and analyzing them. The study reached a set of results, the most important of which are the distinctiveness of local food with clear originality, tourists' satisfaction with the food tourism experiences in local destinations, their great satisfaction with the local food provided to them, as well as their satisfaction with the level of service in local restaurant .
   The study recommended the need to benefit from the experiences of successful tourist destinations in the field of food tourism and to market the local food experience as an opportunity to learn about the exceptional cultural heritage of the Egyptian tourist destination.
