Abstract

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are an important element in the tourism industry, as they contribute to identifying the characteristics and features of tourist sites and trying to develop, grow, plan and market them, as they are one of the main tools used in the process of planning tourist sites. The study aimed to clarify the impact of using GIS in tourism planning in the Suez Canal region. To achieve the study's goal, a survey form was designed and distributed to experts and officials in the field of tourism and GIS, and a proposed website was prepared through GIS applications for tourist sites. The study concluded that the Suez Canal region enjoys many natural and archaeological components, which results in the presence of diverse tourism products and different activities. The role of GIS appears in creating tourist maps to reach the best sites suitable for investment in tourism projects in those areas. The study recommended establishing visitor centers that provide comprehensive information about the sites, and providing the necessary instructions on how to deal with the sites, in addition to conducting training courses to use GIS and highlight its importance in saving time and effort to make planning decisions.
