Towards a Strategic Vision for Sustainable Tourism Development: An Analytical Study of Behbeit El-Hagara Area in Gharbia Governorate

Abstract

Gharbia governorate has many archaeological sites and tourist attractions that qualify it to become a first-class archaeological and tourist destination, capable of attracting local and international tourism. From this standpoint, this research presents a strategic vision for tourism development in Behbeit El-Hagara, one of the villages affiliated with the Samanoud Center, as it is one of the archaeological sites in Gharbia Governorate. This area includes the ruins of the temple of the goddess Isis, assembled of pink and gray granite. Thus, this represents part of the archaeological heritage of this area. Hence, the current research proposes a supportive strategy for Behbeit El-Hagara using SWOT analysis as the most significant and widespread strategic analysis tool to establish sustainable tourism development. This analysis helped in considering current situations and removing investment indicators and general trends to formulate sustainable development strategies that contribute to activating the tourism movement in the area. Hence, 310 thoughts linked to sustainable development in the Behbeit El-Hagara area were obtained, including the Ministry of Tourism, General Authority for Tourism Development, and General Administration of Tourism in Gharbia. Findings revealed that investment opportunities in the Behbeit El-Hajar area despite tourism product weaknesses due to several dangers were rising. The study recommends adopting a strategic approach to proper planning for the area and putting the proposed executive plan into effect, ensuring the improvement of its infrastructure to increase the capacity to receive tourists and enhance community awareness of the importance of sustainable tourism.
