Assessing Strategic vigilance and its Role in Enhancing Strategic Entrepreneurship in Egyptian Tourism Companies

Abstract

Severe global competition has put pressure on organisations to deal with a high level of environmental unpredictability, that put emphasis on the significance of strategic vigilance which brings the organization closer to its surroundings, as strategic vigilance is one of the factors that help achieving growth and entrepreneurship. Despite previous studies in various sectors have indicated the significance of strategic vigilance and its effective role in achieving strategic entrepreneurship, there is no prior study in the tourism sector, to the best of the researcher’s knowledge, that has addressed the relationship between the variables of strategic vigilance and strategic entrepreneurship. Hence, this research aims at clarifying the significance of strategic vigilance in the tourism sector and its role in enhancing strategic entrepreneurship of tourism companies. To achieve the purpose of the study, 350 questionnaires were distributed to a random sample of managers in Egyptian tourism companies (category A) to identify the extent of application of strategic vigilance and its role in reinforcing strategic entrepreneurship, while only 304 valid forms were analyzed, with a response rate of 87% by using SPSS version. 28. The findings of this research proved that tourism companies draw attention to strategic vigilance due to its importance and companies which have an interest in applying strategic vigilance can reinforce their strategic entrepreneurship. This research recommended the need for tourism companies to focus on spreading the culture of strategic vigilance and draw attention to working in tourism companies according to a clear and specific vision based on entrepreneurial mindset.
