The Competitiveness of the United Arab Emirates Tourist Destination and the lessons learned in the Arab World

Abstract

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). It was founded on 2nd December 1971, and it celebrates its golden jubilee in 2021. Although, it is a new country, but it has proven its pioneering position in various global competitiveness indicators that leads to join the list of the top 10 countries in the world. UAE is a first-class tourist destination on the global tourism map. It has been established its global tourism position due to its tourism components, security, stability, strategic location, infrastructure, and the adoption of distinguished approaches such as tolerance, mutual respect, and good neighborliness. One of the most important factors of the UAE success as a tourist destination is the interest of monitoring and analyzing several international tourism reports to measure its tourism competitiveness in the context of its future vision. This study focuses mainly on highlighting some important points about UAE tourism such as the tourist product components, the administrative organization of tourism sector, the statistics of international tourism, the indicators of the UAE tourism competitiveness, in addition to the state’s initiatives used to support the tourism sector during the Covid-19 epidemic and the UAE competitive tourism vision. The methodology of this study is based on studying and analyzing the competitiveness indicators of the UAE tourist destination in several global competitiveness reports to identify its competitive tourist position, and to guide the other Arab countries for the best practices to develop their tourism competitiveness.
