The development of slow tourism as a new pattern of Tourism: A case study of tourism companies in Alexandria

Abstract

The emergence of the concept of slow tourism is for affirming cultural distinctiveness of the local communities vs. globalization. This is an exploratory study about the possibility of practicing slow tourism activities in the city of Alexandria, depending on the reconsideration of the time, and the nature of the tour, that for more understanding of the essence of the tourist destinations. The questions of the study were what is the role of tourist companies in the development of slow tourism activities? What are the opportunities and obstacles to the development of these activities? In order to answer these questions a field study on the tourism company’s category (a) in Alexandria was conducted. The results indicated that there are a number of obstacles to the development of slow tourism activities in the city.
